The amount raised for the Mosque Construction Fund was almost BND15 million as of February 2021.
With this, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) is implementing a five-year (2018-2023) plan that includes the construction of new mosques, in addition to upgrading and repairing the existing ones.
This was said by Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, in response to a question by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pendikar Alam Dato Paduka Seri Haji Hasrin bin Dato Paduka Haji Sabtu on the current amount in the Mosque Construction Fund and the impending projects to be
carried out by MoRA.
The minister also revealed that under MoRA’s five-year plan for 2018-2023, the fund will be used to build five mosques, with an estimated cost of BND3.5 to BND4.5 million for each.
“Alhamdulillah, the monthly contributions made by public servants and uniformed agencies have been encouraging, as well as the funds derived from public donations to mosques,”
he said.
The minister said that mosques in Kampong Bukit Panggal and Kampong Tanjung Bunut have utilised the fund for construction purposes.
“Funds are also required for the construction of mosques in Kampong Junjongan, Ulu Tutong and Lamunin. Religious halls will be refurbished as mosques for converts in Temburong District, while the Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Pekan Bangar needs repairs,” he said.
