The High Commission of Bangladesh in Brunei Darussalam marked their 50th Independence and National Day with a celebration at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong yesterday evening.
In her speech, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona congratulated the Brunei Government for the successful containment of COVID-19 pandemic with an effective decision to close the borders and enforcing strict health measures, which she said has made Brunei a safe place and a model country to learn from, while many countries are still reeling from the pandemic.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Brunei Government for the support towards the Bangladeshi community, especially low-skilled workers during the early days of the pandemic and to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for a generous donation to over a million Rohingyas living in camps in Bangladesh.
Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof and spouse were the as guests of honour.
A cake-cutting ceremony was also conducted by the minister and the Bangladeshi High Commissioner.
