THE Brunei-Muara District Office yesterday handed out Korban (sacrificial) meat to over 6,000 people from 17 Mukims in the Brunei-Muara District.
Held at the Muhibbah Hall at the Old Airport, the portions of the Korban meat were distributed to 6,262 recipients comprising heads of households and family members of the poor and destitute.
Yesterday’s sacrificial meat distribution ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the Village Head of Kg Bolkiah ‘A’, Shahminan bin Haji Matzin, followed by a mass recitation of the Takbir led by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Roselan bin Haji Mohamad Daud, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Following the Takbir, a speech was delivered by the Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Hasmiron bin Haji Mohd Taib.
In his speech, he highlighted the significance of Hari Raya Aidiladha, also known as Hari Raya Haji or Hari Raya Korban, as an opportunity for Muslims to share blessings with the underprivileged, including the poor and destitute.
The event continued with the distribution of sacrificial meat to the 100 recipients from Kampong Pelambayan, Kampong Serdang and Kampong Subok and distribution to the village heads as well as committee members of the Brunei-Muara District Office that will be distributed to the families in the district.
One of the recipients at the ceremony, Hajah Zubaidah binti Haji Ibrahim expressed her gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
“I am grateful for His Majesty’s kindness that he has bestowed (upon us) for the past years especially on Hari Raya Aidiladha,” she added.
