HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam yesterday graced the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations held at the Istana Nurul Iman.

The arrival of Their Majesties and other members of the royal family was greeted by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs; and Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Mohd Nawawi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Haji Awang Mohd Taha, His Majesty’s Private and Confidential Secretary as joint-chairmen and members of the ceremony’s executive committee.

A mass Takbir Hari Raya, praising the greatness of the Allah the Almighty, commenced on the arrival of Their Majesties. The mass Takbir Hari Raya was led by 21 representatives from uniformed groups, associations, mosques, Dai’e volunteers and religious schools.
This was then followed by the recitation of selected verses from the Al-Quran, by Abdul Hanan bin Amir and Awangku Md ‘Ashim ‘Afiif bin Pengiran Haji Md Zin, students from the Al-Quran Youth Scheme (STAR).
The translation was read by Ustaz Pengiran Muhd Amirul Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki, an educationist from the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary Boys School.
The ceremony then continued with His Majesty presenting portions of sacrificial meat to 50 male recipients with special needs, and Her Majesty presenting portions of sacrificial meat to 50 female recipients with special needs.
A Doa Selamat was read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
This year a total of 74 cows and 14 goats were sacrificed, which will be distributed to a total of 7,894 underprivileged individuals: 6,262 in the Brunei Muara District, 699 in the Tutong District, 741 in the Belait District and 192 in the Temburong District.
Among those invited to yesterday’s Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations at the Istana Nurul Iman were Muslim converts, Dai’e volunteers and mosque association members, as well as students from higher education institutions and religious schools.
