HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined other congregants at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah yesterday, in performing the Sunnat Aidiladha prayer.
His Majesty was joined by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs.
The prayer was led by Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.
Later, the Aidiladha sermon was delivered by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin.
Following the mass prayers, His Majesty and other members of the royal family consented to attend the ritual Korban ceremony, in the mosque compound.
His Majesty then led the ceremony by performing the ritual slaughter of a sacrificial goat.
The ritual slaughter was then performed on two separate goats, by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.
The rest of the sacrificial livestock were slaughtered at the Mulaut Abattoir, where portions of the meat will be distributed to underprivileged individuals in all four districts.
Aidiladha is celebrated throughout the Muslim world as a commemoration of the Prophet Ibrahim’s (pbuh) willingness to sacrifice his son for Allah the Almighty. It is celebrated on the 10th of Zulhijjah, in the Islamic calendar.
