CHINESE tourists travelling to Brunei via air have increased significantly in recent years thanks to the airline links (charted flights) and promotions by the Brunei Tourism Development and Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) during the China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO).
In 2014, the number of Chinese tourists arriving in Brunei was 26,473. This number increased to 36,886 in 2015 and from January to June this year, the number stands at 15,560 visitors. This tidbit of information was revealed by Tourism Officer Hajah Nur Fariza Munyati binti Haji Abdul Aji from the Tourism Development Department at the Brunei ‘City of Charms’ booth during the 13th CAEXPO.
She also revealed that the numbers would increase due to more charted flights from various provinces in China operated by RB and China Southern that will come into effect by January 2017.
The ‘City of Charms’ booth showcased the best of Brunei, highlighting the three primary products of tourism, namely Kampong Ayer, Bandar Seri Begawan and Temburong.
The display at the pavilion showcased vibrant photos and attractive packages for the three primary tourism products suited for Chinese tourists.
Moreover, RB’s Brand Ambassador, Wu Chun managed to capture the attention of Chinese visitors due to his huge popularity in the region. Trade visitors at the on-going CAEXPO were seen talking photos of the life-size promotion banners of Wu Chun at the expo.
Among other highlights of the ‘City of Charms’ include the opulent mosques such as Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, the Brunei Museum, the Malay Technology Museum, the Royal Regalia Museum Building, Istana Nurul Iman as the official residence of HHis Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Ulu Temburong National Park.
