A KORBAN ceremony was held yesterday at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah where the guest of honour and Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, presented the Korban (sacrificial) meat to the needy.
He also presented gifts of appreciation to the committee members who have been involved with Korban and Aqiqah ceremonies at the mosque since 1997.
The event’s chairman, Ustaz Haji Haris bin Haji Suboh, said that the participation of the public in the Korban showed their firm understanding of the ceremony’s true meaning.
Some 18 buffaloes were sacrificed, while 114 people participated in the Korban ceremony and 12 took part in the Aqiqah, he added.
One-third of the sacrificial meat were intended for 53 needy individuals, with 12 of them receiving their portions of meat from the guest of honour, while the other 41 recipients will get coupons to receive their portions at designated centres, he further said.
Mudim Haji Suhaili bin Haji Kalong, a joint secretary of the committee, also said that yesterday’s Korban ceremony was the 20th of its kind since 1997, and a total of 10 committee members received gifts of appreciation for their long-term participation.
He added that this year also saw the participation of Syababurroja, the mosque youth association of Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, and the mosque’s Muslimah group, whose involvement included the distribution of Korban application forms to the public as well as the purchase of Korban animals from Mulaut Abattoir Sdn Bhd.
Other attendees yesterday were Major (Rtd) Haji Abu Bakar bin Safar, the Penghulu of Mukim Gadong ‘B’; Haji Mohammad bin Haji Abu Bakar, Ketua Kampong Kiulap; Haji Omarsidi bin Haji Ahmad, Ketua Kampong Kiarong; Haji Mohdar bin Haji Ahmad, Ketua Kampong Menglait, as well as the officers and staff of Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
