A DELEGATION comprising 35 members of Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) departed for Seoul, Korea yesterday to attend the 32nd Asean Council Teachers (ACT+1) convention that will run from September 18-20.
Carrying the theme ‘Expansion of Quality Education in Asean and Korea through Character and Global Citizenship Education’, the convention is expected to address the need of Asean member countries to collaborate globally in the work of mutual knowledge and understanding concerning teachers, education, science and culture.
The 32nd ACT+1 is also set to address challenges in the field of education through the Global Citizenship Education Concept, a concept which is promoted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as an initiative to integrate education system among the member states.
The convention also aims to stimulate discussion and share experiences as well as best practices among the member countries.
Leader of the delegation, Haji Antin bin Ahad, President of PGGMB, during an interview said, “It is very vital and important for participating countries to share their teaching practices during the conference so that we can take the best practices and apply them in our classrooms.”
“The leader or representatives of each participating country will endorse a resolution which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Education for reference of improving the quality of education in the country,” he added.
The convention is an annual educational activity that promotes greater cooperation between teachers associations across the Asean regions. It is hosted alternately among teachers’ associations within the nine ACT member countries. Korea is the first non-Asean country to host the convention this year which is expecting 2,000 participants.
The convention will feature presentations of keynote papers and reports from participating countries.
Brunei Darussalam’s report will be delivered by Mariam bin Haji Ladi, a member of PGGMB, who is also an official from the Ministry of Education.
Besides attending the convention, the delegation will also pay a courtesy call to Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Rosli bin Haji Sabtu, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Korea.
