THE Bruneian peacekeeping contingent for the 13th International Monitoring Team (IMT-13) departed for Mindanao, Republic of the Philippines yesterday to replace their outgoing compatriots who have completed a full year of duty.
During a send-off ceremony at the Air Movement Centre at the Air Force Base in Kampong Rimba yesterday morning, Deputy Minister of Defence, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit presented the national flag to the head of the contingent Lieutenant Colonel Abidin bin Haji Timbang and also affixed IMT arm badges to the incoming peacekeepers.
The contingent comprises seven Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel and an officer from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).
Also present to bid farewell to the contingent were the Commander of the RBAF, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah; the Commissioner of the RBPF, Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam; the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar; and the Ambassador of Republic of Philippines to Brunei Darussalam, Meynardo L Montealegre; senior defence and government officials as well as family members of the Brunei IMT-13 contingent.
