Ahmad Fathi completes Tor Des Geants race

AHMAD Fathi bin Dato Paduka Haji Junaidi climbed dizzying heights after completing the Tor Des Geants Endurance Trails Race in 259th place in Courmayeur, Italy which was held from September 11 to 17.

The endurance specialist clocked in 339km of mileage made further difficult with a 24,000m vertical height gain in a time of 141:02.03.

A total of 765 entries registered for the race but only 446 runners managed to complete the event.

Ahmad Fathi has been keeping himself occupied in the competitive running circuit having finished the Borneo Ultra Trail Marathon 2016 in fourth place last June and the Ultra Trail Hong Kong in February in 27th place overall.

The Bruneian has been actively joining extreme running meets from around the region and beyond with experiences in Australia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Ahmad Fathi has also competed in the Ultra Trail Mount Fuji, Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc in Chamonix, France covering 160km of distance as well as the Ironman in New Zealand, Ironman of Asia Pacific in Phuket, Thailand and Ironman of Western Australia Marathon.

Ahmad Fathi has already made headlines after becoming the first Bruneian to complete the Ultraman Australia in Noosa in 2015.

The previous longest distance that Ahmad Fathi had been involved in was the Des Sables Sahara Morocco which covered a distance of 250km.

He has also taken part in neighbouring Malaysia Ironman Langkawi and the Putrajaya Ironman.

Ahmad Fathi’s finest hour came in the 100km Sabah Marathon 2014 when he placed second in Beaufort.

The athlete has recorded a total of 595km in international meets this year alone including the 256km which was captured by online statistics search engine DUV (Deustche Ultramarathon Vereinigung).

Ahmad Fathi’s first notable endurance race was in the Sundown 100km Ultramarathon where he placed 55th overall.

Italy’s Oliviero Bosatelli won the Tor Des Geants 2016 after clocking a time of 75 hours and 10 minutes.
