WHILE the village consultative councils of Brunei have initiated the promotion of village products since its inception, Kampong Kiulap Village Consultative Council has taken a step further by taking their village products to a monthly bazaar tour held at alternate spots and contributing part of their proceeds to orphans of the village.
Yesterday, Kampong Kiulap Village Consultative Council held the bazaar at the boulevard of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex. The bazaar will last until October 3, coinciding with the marking of the new year of 1438 Hijrah.
Guest of honour Acting Assistant Brunei-Muara District Officer, Mohd Aisan Sabri bin Haji Abdul Manaf officiated the event and toured entrepreneurs’ booths that sell a wide variety of products, from food to clothing.
The Fire and Rescue Department also took part in their bid to create awareness of home safety and fire prevention.
The guest of honour also handed certificates of appreciation to participants of the booths for their contributions, which were handed to orphans of Kampong Kiulap.
Kampong Kiulap Village Consultative Council Women’s Bureau, Siti Fatimah binti Haji Jair said that it is quite challenging to pick up sales as the bazaar moves from one place to another each month.
However, she added, sales has been moderate as the spots chosen for the bazaar were carefully picked.
Also in attendance at the event was Kampong Kiulap Village Consultative Council Chairman, Mohammad bin Abu Bakar.
