TEACHER’S Day is a special day to show appreciation for teachers and includes celebrations to honour them for their special contributions to society.
The Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) School in Kampong Sungai Akar celebrated Teacher’s Day over the weekend with the theme, ‘A Wise Teacher Builds a Visionary Generation’, with a wide range of activities lined up for the special occasion involving pupils from Kindergarten 1 to Year 5.
The event’s guest of honour, Hajah Noridah binti Haji Abdullah, Acting Senior Special Duties Officer/Head of the Private Education Section, Ministry of Education.
The function was also attended by the Deputy President of PGGMB, Cikgu Haji Badar bin Haji Ali, Secretary General Cikgu Haji Matassan bin Haji Bungso and other members of the association.
After a performance of the national anthem and recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, Principal Cikgu Haji Zulkipli bin Haji Ladis delivered a speech, in which he highlighted that the school has some in-house training, among others, to enhance the skills and experience of teachers.
‘A Tribute to Teachers’ speech was also delivered by Year 5 student Awangku Muhd Asyraf bin Pengiran Suhaimi, followed by a Teacher’s Day prayer read by Ahmad ‘Aqil bin Azman from Year 6.
Stage musical performances also entertained the guests, staff and pupils, as well as a Dikir Marhaban performed by the female teachers.
The guest of honour also presented prizes for the most winning performances and Outstanding Teachers Awards to deserving recipients.
Thirteen teachers received awards for Special Mention in different categories – Noraine Abdul Rahim, Nor Alina binti Ramli, Doreen Shim Siow Ai, Hajah Khadijah binti Haji Khalid, Nor Najmah Haji Ahmad, Chandni Vinesh Velu, Haji Rasni bin Bakir, Norezan Jairi, Muhd Aleem Musthtaq, Zulymi @ Ijlal Irfan Yahya, Hajah Rosni binti Haji Chuchu, Pengiran Selina Pengiran Haji Sarudin and Maswati Airin Patrah Ahmad.
The Most Outstanding Performance Award recipients were Wilma Paculanang Adalla, Catherine Cruz Torio and Haji Ismail bin Haji Burut @ Haji Maidin.
A souvenir presentation for the guest of honour concluded the day’s programme.
