IN CONJUNCTION with the new Islamic Year 1438, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) organised simultaneous visits yesterday to the homes of several Muslim converts and the underprivileged in all four districts.
Leading the delegation in Temburong District was Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs, who is also the President of Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
The minister and his delegation began by replacing the signposts for the Kampong Selapon Dakwah Station and giving it a fresh coat of paint. While there, the minister also took the opportunity to hand out basic daily necessities to a group of underprivileged individuals and some new Muslim converts.
The minister’s delegation then paid a visit to the house of Hussin bin Abdullah in Kampong Selapon Batu Apoi to distribute some basic goods to the impoverished family of six, two of whom are special needs individuals.
This was followed by a visit to the house of Nur Haziah binti Abdul Rahman at Kampong Batang Duri in Mukim Amo. A Muslim convert and former Zakat recipient from 2009 to 2014, Nur Haziah currently runs businesses in handicrafts and duck-rearing.
She is committed to helping the less fortunate by employing them as staff, and is a prime example of a Zakat recipient who used the allotted financial assistance as a way out of poverty.
The delegation continued its visit to two recipients of financial housing assistance, Ghani bin Abdullah Berauh @ Gani anak Berauh at Kampong Batang Duri in Mukim Amo and Rajali bin Abdullah Gana @ Gana anak Tibu, to distribute some basic necessities.
In the Brunei-Muara District, the delegation led by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, started out with a visit to Jariah binti Haji Bandul in Kampong Jangsak to hand over some donated gifts.
This was followed by the presentation of car-wash equipment to Jamat @ Awangku Othman bin Pengiran Burut at his car wash and workshop at Kampong Batu Bersurat in Mukim Gadong.
The delegation also held a clean-up campaign and a presentation of gifts to Kabur bin Abdul Lamit, at Kampong Pintu Malim in Mukim Kota Batu.
The Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, who is also the Vice-President of MUIB, then took the opportunity to visit Syazwani binti Abdullah, a Muslim convert who has successfully supplemented her income from a candy-floss machine given to her by the Islamic Da’wah Centre, in 2014.
Meanwhile, similar visits were conducted in the Tutong District by Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs; and in the Belait District by Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administrative and Financial Affairs) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
