A DELEGATION of seven youths who will be representing Brunei Darussalam in the 14-day ‘Asean Youth Representatives in Experiencing the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy’ (AY-REPSE 2016) programme, departed for Bangkok yesterday.
The youth representatives comprised government officers, students of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and members of youth associations.
The delegation is led by Haji Mohamad Rosfazilah bin Haji Yusly, Special Duties Officer Grade 1, Head of Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Sending off the delegation at the Departure Hall of the Brunei International Airport was Haji Mohd Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
In an interview, one of the participants, Awangku Haji Ahmad Fadillah Akhbar bin Pengiran Haji Sellahhuddin, executive committee member of the Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council and a member of the UBD Guilds of Graduates, said, “From this programme, we are expecting to find out how the various projects conducted by the royal project in Thailand can help foster village enterprises and empower the ‘One Village, One Product’ concept which has been adapted here in Brunei Darussalam.
“Since the programme is about sufficiency in economy, the programme plays a huge role in Brunei’s effort to diversify its economy.
“We will also be presenting a country report where we will be sharing with them local products that have been successful at empowering local entrepreneurs on the grassroots level.
“I believe sharing this with our Asean counterparts will give them an idea of how far we have gone in being economically sufficient,” he added.
Among the products that will be showcased are virgin coconut oil products from Kampong Tanjong Maya, Raja Kayu carved wood handicrafts from Kampong Sengkurong ‘A’ and stingless bee honey.
Among the objectives of the programme are to develop and solidify the understanding of the government of Thailand’s initiative for Asean youth representatives to encourage learning and utilising the Thailand’s initiative as a guide for all levels, which in return will bring synchronised growth in all Asean member countries.
