THE National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) yesterday hosted the FIFA grassroots football coaching course.

For the first time, six female participants registered to take part in the five-day training.

The female participants are among the 31 participants of the course conducted by invited lecturer from Malaysia Dato Yap Nyim Keong.

The guest of honour who officiated the course was Awang Haji Mohd Noor Bin Hj Hamid, a member of the executive committee of NFABD.

Yap said, “NFABD is the first member association of FIFA to get two grassroots courses within a year.

“This is proof of the hard work of NFABD. The grassroots programme in the country is progressing very well covering all four districts.

“”What excites me when I come to Brunei is the national U-16 league. Through competition, we can gauge progress.”

Yap, who is also in charge of women football development in Asia, hoped that grassroots and women football would continue developing.

Awang Haji Mohd Noor said, “From 2014, NFABD has organised training programmes for players between 12 to 18 years old.

“From this, national U-12, U-14, U-15, U-16 teams were formed, in addition to the Tabuan Muda team.

“This is the result of the hard work put in by NFABD coaches.

“With the aim of raising the standard of football in the country and producing talented footballers, NFABD also organised the national U-16 football league.”
