ALLIANCE Francaise and the Rainforest Gallery yesterday held the official launching for the Pei Yee Art Exhibition, at the Alliance Francaise de Brunei headquarters in Batu Besurat.

Present as the guest of honour at the event was Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education.

Also among those in attendance were Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Idris, the President of Alliance Francaise; and Loan Forgeron, the French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.

The launching ceremony began with a welcoming speech by Fabienne Sylla-Pousse, the former director of Alliance Francaise.

This was then followed with a speech by Dato Paduka Haji Shofry bin Haji Abdul Ghafor, the owner and manager of the Rainforest Gallery, in which he described Pei Yee’s incredible talents as an artist.

Born in 1995, Pei Yee has lived in Brunei since she was a year old. At the age of two, she contracted a high fever leaving her with reduced hearing.

She attended primary school at Seri Mulia Sarjana School, and secondary school at Sayyidina Hasan. In 2014, Pei Yee achieved a Grade B in Art during her ‘O’ Levels and won an art competition organised by the Special Education Unit of the Ministry of Education, which led to the recognition of her exceptional talents by the manager of the Rainforest Gallery.

She later joined the Rainforest Gallery as a resident artist.

A total of 22 art pieces are currently being exhibited at the Alliance Francaise de Brunei and will go on display for the entire month of October.
