THE Jerudong International School’s (JIS) annual community event, ‘Football Funday’, was held at the JIS football fields and was sponsored by Kia Motors.
Competing in the event were Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah playing for the ISB Panthers and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim playing for ISB Lightning.
Students from 20 invited local schools competed in a 5-a-side football game on 19 pitches, in 12 age groups from U9 up to U19 years. The invited schools were Kolej IGS, Maktab Duli, Maktab Sains, PTE Katok, PTE Meragang, Cemerlang Abejess School (SECA), SM Berakas, SM Menglait, SM Rimba, SM Sultan Sharif Ali, SM Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam School (SMJA), Seri Mulia Sarjana School (SMSS), SOAS College, St Andrew’s School, St George’s School, SM Sayyidina Ali, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary and Secondary Schools, Hornbill School, Panaga School and International School Brunei (ISB).
Chris McGeorge, JIS’s Director of Sports, said, “We have been working with Kia for three years in organising ‘Football Funday’, ‘Netball Funday’, and the ‘JIS Fun Run’.”
JIS together with Kia are delighted to be joining the nationwide push for grassroots sports by delivering an exciting fun day of football involving around 1,000 children and over 100 teams participating from all over Brunei. “We are also be happy to announce that we will be organising ‘Netball Funday’ with Kia Motors next term.”
Also playing in the Under-19 category from JIS were the Kuno FC team who are sponsored by Kia Motors in Brunei. Kia Motors has been sponsoring JIS sports events since last year to further enhance their sports marketing initiatives.
On the side, parents and students had set up a number of stalls to raise money for the official school charities including the special needs unit in Brunei.
