ELEVEN eateries in Kuala Belait and Pekan Seria were awarded Grade ‘A’ certification for maintaining high quality and excellent hygiene.
The certificates were presented to 12 eateries under the governance of the KB-Seria Municipal Department that went through the 2016 phase 1 evaluation during a ceremony held at the atrium of the Sentral Shopping Centre, yesterday.
Haji Ali bin Matyassin, Chairman of KB-Seria Municipal Board, said 11 of the recipients acquired Grade ‘A’ and one restaurant Grade ‘B’ in the evaluation.
“The Inspection Committee found that the managers of the premises have made a positive change and their performance is the product of their ‘willingness to change’ attitude towards maintaining a hygiene culture,” the chairman said, adding that the public will be more keen on visiting the food premises that display the grades of exceptional hygiene recognised by the government.
The Sentral Shopping Centre located along Jalan Seri Maharaja saw 100 per cent of its eateries receiving Grade ‘A’ certification.
Eight of the 11 restaurants are tenants of the Sentral Shopping Centre and seven of them belong to Freshco Group of Restaurants.
Abby Lim, General Manager of the KB Sentral Property Management Sdn Bhd which oversees the Sentral Shopping Centre and its tenants, said cleanliness is an important aspect of the tenancy agreement.
Allan A Cabangon, Branch Manager for Freshco Group of Restaurants, said in his two years’ experience working in Brunei, he found that Sentral has the highest standard for cleanliness.
Present as guest of honour at the event and to present the certificates was Haji Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and accompanying him was Haji Haris bin Haji Othman, Belait District Officer.
