THE Brunei-Muara District Office’s Licensing and Enforcement Division recently fined two companies $200 each for indiscriminate garbage disposal at an industrial site in Kampong Salambigar.
The companies violated the Minor Offence Act Section 12. (1), (a) for putting, accumulating, throwing dust, dirt, paper, ash, dead animals, garbage, boxes, barrels, bags or other items in a public place.
The Brunei-Muara District Office reminds the public and businesses owners to keep their surroundings clean to reduce the risk of the spread of infectious diseases borne from indiscriminate disposal of rubbish in public areas.
Individuals who violate the Minor Offence Act will be fined no more than $500, failure of which legal action will be taken.
The offender can be taken to court and if found guilty can be fined $1,000 for the first offence, $3,000 for subsequent offense and also imprisoned for a period not exceeding three months.
