FC Phosphor overcame the scorching afternoon heat to beat Dagang FT 2-0 at the Track and Field Sports Complex yesterday and progressed to the third round of the Brunei DST FA Cup.
Coach Tengku Syed Herdiman bin Tengku Syed Abdul Rahman highlighted that they did their best to cope with the humid weather conditions in the first half but managed to grab the initiative once the heat subsided after the interval.
“The team’s performance so far when I see we did our best but the weather was too hot in the first half,” Tengku Syed Herdiman said in an interview with the media yesterday.
“But after the weather got better in the second half we managed to attack, make chances and score goals. So far I am happy with the performance,” he added.
The non-league outfit earned a third round meeting with Brunei DST Premier League side IKLS which Tengku Syed Herdiman described as a good side.
“I did research about IKLS. They are also one of the good clubs in the Premier League so we wish to compete with them.”
With a tie against Brunei DST Super League opposition Lun Bawang on the offering, the third round tie marks the first time that both clubs will meet.
Asked whether his charges are getting into grips with the demands of the cup competition, Tengku Syed Herdiman assured that his team is prepared to handle the pressure.
“We have been well prepared for three months. There will be no problems for us because we are ready for the next round.”
The coach also promised the fans that they will be giving their 100% to the cause of doing well in the competition after securing their progress.
Meanwhile a representative from Dagang United FT said that luck did not favour them and that the game was keenly contested.
Former Manchester United youth academy player Dylan Charles broke the deadlock in the 49th minute before Mohd Khairulizam Pungut doubled his side’s lead three minutes later.
Asked about their most prized asset, the head coach said he made the move for the 15-year old after seeing the player performed at the Hua Ho Festival for his school International School Brunei (ISB).
“Dylan Charles can play in the right wing, left wing and striker,” continued the coach.
Charles was previously in the ranks of Manchester United and played for a team in Qatar before attending ISB in Brunei.
The two positions that could provide substantial damage are also currently being held by the two import players namely Charles and Jasman Nasri.
Meanwhile, DSP United hammered Hawa FT 5-1 at the Tutong Sports Complex with the goals coming from Wan Firdaus, Md Fawzan, Abd Aziz, Md Hafiy and Md Hanis.
