RTB, RTM hold debate programme

THE ‘Debat Siswa’ 2016, a joint television programme of Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) was held yesterday during a recording session at Studio 4, RTB in Sungai Akar.

The opposition team emerged victorious of the inaugural debate programme after successfully defending their topic in a heated argument on “Asean as an ecotourism destination for the diversification of a country’s economy”.

On hand to present the prizes to the debate champions was Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, together with Dato’ Samsuni bin Mohd Nor, Senior Secretary, Ministry Of Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia.

Also present was Director of RTB, Haji Mohd Suffian bin Haji Bungsu, the Deputy director of RTM, Zainab Yusof together with officials and family members.

The programme is the first joint-production between under the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Radio Televisyen Brunei and Radio Televisyen Malaysia whereby Brunei was the host country.

This informative programme involved undergraduates from various universities from both nation with the main objectives to highlight the importance of harnessing and strengthening Malay language skills of competitors as well as to produce skilled debaters with caliber.

Judging was based on participants’ style, content, strategy and well-thought response.

Speakers are required to meet certain challenges including proofing their argument with research materials that is accurate and the usage of video clips, slides and PowerPoint to strengthen their argument.

Each country was represented by four members, two males and two females where they were grouped into the proposition or opposition side.

The winning team consists of Muhammad Raziq Raziqin bin Abdullah and Siti Nurul Iman binti Md Dan from Brunei Darussalam and Luqman bin Long and Ainur Rabiatuladawiyah binti Hassim from Malaysia.

For the proposition, the team consists of Muhammad Ikmal bin Jamaluddin and Siti Nur Sabihah binti Shukri from Malaysia and Ahmad Hisyamuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahim and Anisah binti Alamshah from Brunei Darussalam.

The programme is scheduled to be aired in RTB and RTM soon.
