UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB) observed its annual International Day gathering yesterday, with the aim of celebrating the different cultures of its local and international students.
Held at the UTB multipurpose hall, the event was jointly organised by the Executive Committee (EXCO) International Affairs and EXCO Culture under the Student Representative Council of UTB.
Dean of Student Affairs at UTB Joffry bin Haji Bungsu was the guest of honour at the event, while other guests included officials and representatives of various foreign missions in Brunei.
UTB has more than 30 international students from over 15 different countries. Last year, six foreign missions took part, and this year more embassies and high commissions were invited for the annual celebration, along with participation from the international students and culture clubs of UTB.
During the reception, the international students gave displays of their national attire, food and delicacies, as well as a brief presentation on their respective countries.
There was also a number of performances from UTB’s culture clubs; a multimedia presentation of the daily life of an international student at UTB; and colourful booths decorated by the participating embassies and high commissions, the Student Representative Council and the international students.
In his welcoming remarks, Farhan Nuradli bin Abdul Karim, the chairperson of the event and head of the EXCO International Affairs, noted that it was the second International Day held at UTB, and also its first time as part of the International Cultural Week.
“On this International Day, let us work together and make new friendships with each other,” he said.
“It is only through mutual understanding we can develop ourselves into reaching higher levels.
“Hopefully through this International Day we can achieve in reaching our objectives and make a ripple effect to make UTB, Brunei Darussalam and the world a much better place to live in,” he added.
