Over 550 graduates receive Master’s, diplomas

A TOTAL of 556 graduates in Master’s, Postgraduate Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Diploma programmes from the fourth batch of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)’s distinctive GenNEXT programme in various faculties received their certificates during the afternoon session of the university’s 28th Convocation Ceremony yesterday.

Gracing the ceremony at the UBD Chancellor Hall was His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of UBD.

In all 481 Master’s graduates of different programmes spanning from UBD’s Institute of Policy Studies, School of Business and Economics, Faculty of Integrated Technologies, Academy of Brunei Studies, Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Centre for Islamic Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education received their certificates from His Royal Highness the Crown Prince during the ceremony.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also presented certificates to 75 postgraduate diploma, advanced diploma and diploma graduates from UBD’s Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences and Centre for Lifelong Learning.

Earlier, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was welcomed by Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education and Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, the Vice-Chancellor of UBD, upon arrival.

A procession was held as the pro-chancellor entered the hall and later delivered a sabda to bestow the certificates to the graduates. A Doa Selamat was also read by Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal upon the ceremony’s conclusion to bless the occasion.

The ceremony yesterday afternoon was preceded by the morning session that saw His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chancellor of UBD presenting 921 PhD and bachelor’s degree graduates with their certificates.
