IN CONJUNCTION with Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s (UBD) 28th Convocation, an exhibition centred on UBD’s five years strategic plan 2016-2020 was set up at the foyer of the senate room on the second floor of the Chancellor Hall in UBD.
The exhibition displayed augmented reality animations and videos with the use of a selection of motion graphics to focus on UBD’s most innovative and forward-thinking research and projects to capture the overall vision of the university.
The use of augmented reality showed the communication of one of the strategic plans to symbolise commitment and drive towards ground breaking applications and solutions for the future.
The exhibition highlighted five exhibits namely the first exhibit (Strategic Plan 1), ‘Nurture Innovation and Translate into Enterprise’, the CAMES Wind Turbine Technology.
It underscores UBD desires to ensure that innovation can be translated to enterprise and global humanitarian efforts and this outstanding research will help Brunei achieve its environmental goal, to turn 10 per cent of its energy demand to renewable energy by 2035.
The second exhibit (Strategic Plan 2), ‘Mobilise Research Centres and Institutes Towards Global Impacts’, showcasing UBD’s collaborative research with multiple, internationally recognised institutions on the rehabilitation and protection of peat swamps and show how UBD will mobilise its research centres and present the most updated herbal research to illustrate its medicinal and curative properties.
The third exhibit (Strategic Plan 3), ‘Foster Innovative Teaching and Learning with a Global Perspective’, displays and explains the lifelong learning ethos and demonstrates through the first-of-its-kind ‘Massive Open Online Course’ (MOOC) module on Biodiversity.
The fourth exhibit (Strategic Plan 4), ‘Promote UBD as a Global Brand of Excellence’, displays statistics that shows the consistent increase of international students coming to study in UBD and demonstrates the university’s growing popularity and visibility on the global front of education and illustrates the successful learning of UBD’s outbound students through the Discovery Year programme.
And finally, the fifth exhibit (Strategic Plan 5), ‘Enhance Governance to Cultivate Leadership and Enterprise in the University’, displays UBD’s commitment to progressive and resource efficient methods of management and highlighting the current e-UBD payment strategy as well as online admission system to exemplify the university’s commitment to reducing carbon-footprint and efficient administration.
