HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday received in audience Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the President of the Republic of the Philippines, who is in the country on a three-day state visit.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam welcomed President Duterte on arrival at Istana Nurul Iman.
Accompanying the president from Istana Edinburgh to Istana Nurul Iman was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, as Personal Representative of His Majesty.
The monarch, together with President Duterte, proceeded to the dais to receive the ‘Salute of Honour’, which was followed by the national anthems of both countries and a 21-gun salute. The two leaders then inspected the guard of honour mounted by the Royal Brunei Land Forces and Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
The President of the Republic of the Philippines was then introduced to members of the royal family; state dignitaries; Cabinet Ministers; deputy ministers; Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force; Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; foreign envoys in Brunei Darussalam; as well as permanent secretaries at the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
His Majesty was also introduced to members of the delegation of President Duterte.
The delegation includes Perfecto R Yasay Jr, Secretary of Foreign Affairs; Carlos G Dominguez III, Secretary of Finance; Miguel Delfin N Lorenzana, Secretary of National Defence; Ramon M Lopez, Secretary of Trade and Industry; Jose Ruperto Martin M Andanar, Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office; Hermogenes C Esperon Jr, National Security Adviser; Jesus G Dureza, Presidential Adviser of Peace Process; Yasmin Busran-Lao, Secretary of the National Commission of Muslim Filipinos; Datu Abul Khayr D Alonto, Secretary of the Mindanao Development Authority; and Alan Peter S Cayetano, Senator of the Republic of the Philippines.
Shortly after, an audience ceremony was held at Cheradi Laila Kenchana. Also present at the ceremony were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as other members of the royal family.
Also attending the ceremony were Perfecto R Yasay Jr; Carlos G Dominguez III; Miguel Delfin N Lorenzana; Alan Peter S Cayetano; and Meynardo LB Montealegre, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam.
After the audience ceremony, His Majesty held a bilateral meeting with President Duterte.
Also attending the meeting was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.
Also present at the meeting were Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as the Minister-in-Attendance; Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance II; Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; and Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the meeting, which was held in Baitul Mesyuarah, His Majesty and President Duterte discussed bilateral relations between the Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines, as well as exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual concern.
President Duterte and delegation arrived in Brunei Darussalam on Sunday afternoon.
