CRIME statistics reported in areas under the BSB Central Police Station’s jurisdiction have shown a slight decline from the previous quarter, it was revealed during a quarterly meeting held recently between senior officials from the police station and grassroots leaders responsible for the Neighbourhood Watch groups.
At the meeting held at the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Headquarters in Jalan Gadong, Superintendent of Police Haji Azree bin Haji Abdul Manaf, the Acting Commanding Officer of Brunei Police District, said statistics reported from August – September 2016 have shown a decline in reported crimes compared to the previous quarter.
He also shared that most theft crimes were committed on unattended properties, such as those left outside house compounds, and also in construction zones where construction materials are being targeted. He later advised village heads to remind their respective residents to inform their neighbours if they intend to leave the house unattended and also inform the nearest police station.
During the meeting, the schedule of anti-crime operations with Neighbourhood Watch groups in the respective villages that was mentioned by Acting ASP Mohd ‘Izzuddin Hanis bin Haji Mohd Salleh, the Acting Commanding Officer of the BSB Central Police Station. He said up to four operations are held every month during the day or night-time involving neighbourhood watch groups and police personnel.
Apart from the crime-watch operations, other matters discussed during the meeting included their participation in charity, religious and community events and visits to government departments and also sporting events.
According to a press release from the RBPF, the quarterly meeting is a compulsory assembly that aims for information-sharing between the RBPF and grassroots leaders to help both sides better understand the scope of crimes, including road and traffic offences in their respective areas and find ways to combat the issues together.
Also present at the meeting were Mukim Penghulus, as well as village heads from villages in Mukims Gadong ‘B’, Gadong ‘A’, Kota Batu, Kianggeh and Kilanas.
