AFTER months of preparation, Year 6 students in the country began sitting for their Primary School Assessment (PSR) Examination yesterday.
Prior to the start of the examination, primary schools throughout the country conducted their respective programmes to motivate and prepare the students.
Hajah Hainyisah binti Haji Mustapa, Headmistress of Haji Mohd Salleh Primary School in Kampong Sungai Hanching, in an interview with the Sunday Bulletin said that the school started preparing their students since last year to identify their strength and weaknesses.
Quality teachers were also selected by the end of last year to implement the teaching strategy practice of assigning one teacher to handle one subject. Students were also grouped according to their learning capabilities to allow teachers to plan their teaching and learning strategies.
Parent-teacher meetings were also conducted after every Check Point Assessment (CPA) with the headmistress personally briefing the parents before handing over the results transcript and providing an arrangement of a more organised extra classes schedule involving all teachers.
An incentive system was also implemented which entailed awarding students with cer-tificates and stars each time they showed signs of improvement.
The headmistress added that the involvement of parents and guardians attending the mass Maghrib, Isyak and Sunnat Hajat prayers conducted prior to the examination helped encourage the students to go the extra mile.
Hajah Hainyisah noted that teachers and parents/guardians also established a good rapport to keep updated with progress while having the school’s teachers educate their students without feeling pressured to produce a positive outcome.
With the delegation of teaching responsibilities done according to the teachers’ strength to maximise results and reach the target of a better performance, she hopes that the school this year will excel, if not sustain last year’s improvement.
