THE 6th Hafl Al-Takharruj (convocation ceremony) of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday saw individuals from different backgrounds of life celebrating the completion of their respective courses.
At this year’s convocation ceremony, there were graduates, comprising 36 Huffaz, who received their Special Bachelor’s Degree in Al-Quran Recitation 30 Juzuks in tests conducted by the Tasmie’ Board.
One of the recipients, Haji Sujairi bin Haji Dollah, expressed his gratitude to the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for awarding them with a special degree. “It was such an honour to receive such an award, which is not only recognised as an academic achievement but also a qualification,” he said.
Another recipient, Mohammad Fikri bin Haji Sharbini who is currently working at Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB), shared his happiness in receiving the special degree.
“One needs to have a strong will in memorising 30 Juzuks of the Al-Quran but also in preserving it as it is our ‘amanah’. Alhamdulillah, this is considered as my double degree,” he said.
“Before receiving the special degree, we must undergo Tasmie’ tests that were conducted by the Tasmie’ Board. We must be able to succeed in all four tests that are conducted twice a year. If we are able to maintain what we have memorised, then only we could receive this prestigious appreciation,” he added.
Adding more sweetness to his graduation, his wife, Dayangku Nurol Hafizah, also received the special degree.
In addition, for the first time at the convocation, 26 graduates received their respective Certificates of Syariah Criminal Justice System, a course that was first launched in the academic year of 2014/2015.
One of the course participants, the Superintendent of Prisons Aliakbar bin Haji Ludin, shared his gratitude for the success in completing the one-year course. He added that the course was very beneficial for him since it was related to his field of work.
“During the course, we were exposed to matters pertaining to the Syariah Penal Code, especially ‘Hudud’, procedures for the implementation process and laws that are related to the Syariah Penal Code,” he added.
Meanwhile for Inspector Mohammad Soffian bin Haji Kipli, the course was able to provide him with information on Syariah law that are included in the Al-Quran and Hadith. Personnel from three agencies, namely the Royal Brunei Police Force, Prisons Department and Religious Law Enforcement, had participated in the one-year course.
