THE Syariah Courts of the State Judiciary Department under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) held an appreciation ceremony for the former permanent panel judge of the Syariah Appeal Court and welcomed the new Permanent Panel Judge of the Syariah Appeal Court yesterday at the multipurpose hall of the Brunei Supreme Court and Syariah Courts Building.
Present at the event were Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, and Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syar’ie Judge.
Also present were Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs; Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office; Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Syar’ie judges, officers and staff of the Syariah Court.
Haji Hassan bin Haji Metali, Head Registrar of the Syariah Appeal Court, in his welcoming remarks expressed his gratitude toward the Minister of Religious Affairs for his period of service as a permanent panel judge of the Syariah Appeal Court, which lasted around 15 years.
The minister was appointed as the permanent panel judge of the Syariah Appeal Court from March 26, 2011 to March 25, 2016. He was also appointed as the Chairman of the Committee of Syar’ie Judges from March 20, 2008 until October 22, 2016.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Tasim bin Haji Akim was appointed as the new Permanent Panel Judge of the Syariah Appeal Court on April 1, 2016.
The event coincided with the 1438 Hijrah New Year celebration which was enlivened with a Tazkirah presented by Pengiran Dr Haji Badaruddin bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman, judge at the Syariah Subordinate Court.
