DPMM FC’s nine-game undefeated run came to a screeching halt following a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Balestier Khalsa in their final game of the 2016 S League season at the Toa Payoh Stadium in Singapore last night.
The Brunei-based outfit finished 2nd runners-up which was instrumentally helped by a late resurgence having at one stage found to be under serious competition for the position.
DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean started with three players that were involved in the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers with Yura Indera Putera declared fit to start the match having been a doubt at the start of the week.
Fadhil Noh produced a cross which was headed wide by Niko Tokic before Hazzuwan Halim delivered a fine ball but Tokic could not convert in a matter of minutes.
Hazzuwan’s passing accuracy meant Tokic was not at a shortage in service who could not put the ball past Wardun Yussof who after sensing danger was out of his line.
DPMM FC tried to make it happen with Hendra Azam sending a good cross for Azwan Ali Rahman who knocked the ball down with his chest towards Rafael Ramazotti who blasted the ball wide.
The hosts became the first side who tested the opponents’ mettle but Miroslav Kristic struck a shot towards the goalkeeper after Tokic had done well to knock down a cross.
The Tigers had come knocking the door and finally broke DPMM FC’s resistance as Tokic tapped the ball home from a Hazzuwan’s low cross.
Kristic collected Daniel Farhan’s cross before firing past Wardun to ensure the victory in the final minute of normal time.
