CONCEPTS Computer remain on course of retaining their title following an 83-78 victory over Concepts Technologies to book a spot in the Concepts Veteran Cup final this Sunday at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.
Concepts Technologies enjoyed the highest scoring quarter amassing 28 points in the third quarter to narrow the lead by only two points but Concepts Computer found an extra gear and raced to an eight-point lead to solidify their position in the tie.
Ybanez of Concept Technologies downed a trey as scant consolation for the fourth best team in the tournament but the damage had already been done.
Despite running away with the lead at the end, Concepts Computer coach Jameel Mabanto bin Abdullah did not view it as an easy game with the team strengthened by the recruitment of Filipino players.
“We think it was very easy but when we played because they were a lot of Filipinos playing, we can’t say it is very easy,” said Jameel Mabanto in a post-match interview with the Weekend Bulletin.
“It was a little bit hard also because we were also afraid of losing because we went down by one point,” he said.
Having surrendered the first two quarters, Concepts Technologies came into the third quarter with renewed enthusiasm and successfully executing a succession of baskets.
“In the third quarter, they were very aggressive and then they were making three-point shots.”
Concepts will be meeting the winner of the Home Kitchen & Café and Winran Tyre match which commenced after the first semi-final and regardless which team made it Jameel Mabanto said that both teams are good.
Jameel Mabanto is pleased with the way his charges have performed since the opening group game as they bid to retain the title they won last year.
Though he acknowledged every member of the playing squad, he also sang the praises of centre player Toledo, Grafil who is crucial in helping to attain the points and Dejesus as well as team manager Vincent Pao in reaching the final.
The head coach concluded that they hope to win the title for a second consecutive year.
