DPMM FC striker Rafael Ramazotti will be receiving the Top Scorer Award for the second consecutive season in the S League Awards Night at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on November 1.
The Brazilian bagged an impressive tally of 20 goals in the just concluded season and fend off the challenges of the likes of Ken Ilso of Home United and Jonathan Behe of Warriors FC, both of whom had also a prolific season upfront with the latter scoring a hat-trick in the last game.
The club’s target man scored four penalties in the process eventually finishing third in the league despite a late rally of securing a first runners-up spot.
Ramazotti has also been nominated in the Goal of the Year category alongside the Albirex Niigata (S) trio of Tomoki Menda, Atsushi Kawata and Shuto Inaba and Hougang United FC’s Iqbal Hussain.
Meanwhile, DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean has also been nominated in the Coach of the Year shortlist for the third consecutive season alongside overwhelming favourite Naruo Naoki of Albirex Niigata (S) and Hougang United FC’s coach K Balagumaran.
Kean has justified his selection among the contenders after an excellent form in the third round of the season while Balagumaran had boosted hopes of third place after a good string of results.
No DPMM FC’s representatives made the list in the Young Player and Player of the Year Awards this season.
Albirex Niigata (S) defender Naofumi Tanaka will be battling it out alongside Hougang United FC’s M Anumanthan and Home United FC’s duo of Shahrin Saberin and Song Uiyong in the Young Player of the Year category.
Meanwhile, Atsushi Kawata will face stiff competition alongside last year’s recipient Hougang United FC’s Fumiya Kogure, Home United FC striker Ken Ilso and Tampines Rovers FC creative midfielder Hafiz Sujad for the coveted Player of the Year.
Much of the talk has centred on the arrival of former Liverpool and Arsenal player Jermaine Pennant at the start of the season with increased attendance observed in friendly games.
Singapore’s The Straits Times has earned a nomination with Chua Siang Yee’s captivating piece of Pennant’s embarking a new start at Tampines to re-establish his career among four articles in contention for the Story of The Year Award.
Albirex have also featured prominently after a swashbuckling run to their maiden S League title including nomination for the Fan Club of the Year while they are also already guaranteed the Fair Play Award.
