A TOTAL of 64 students from the Jerudong International School (JIS) received their Primary Six Religious Schools Certificate (SSSRU) Examination certificates yesterday, in a presentation ceremony which took place in the auditorium of the school’s Arts Centre.
Present as the guest of honour was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hisham bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, the Deputy Minister of Finance.
The ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Hajah Noraidah binti Haji Tengah, the Headmistress of the JIS Religious School, in which she attributed the students’ excellent results to the strong efforts and determination of their respective class teachers.
She also pointed out that the school has also been working on developing the students’ skills through various Al-Quran and Dikir Syarafil Anam competitions, organised by the Co-Curriculum Section of the Department of Islamic Studies (JPI).
The headmistress also mentioned the religious school’s participation in the ‘Satu Minggu Satu Juzuk’ (One Week, One Juzuk) programme initiated by JPI this year, which produced 31 Khatam readers comprising Primary 1 to Primary 6 students.
She expressed her appreciation to the JIS Board of Directors along with the principal, deputy principal and staff of JIS, for their continuous support and cooperation with the religious school.
“We are proud that the religious school has been under the same roof as the Jerudong International School for 10 years,” she said.
This was followed by a speech by the Deputy Principal of JIS, Richard Humes, and a Tausyeh performance by students from the religious school.
A slide presentation on a decade of religious studies at JIS was screened prior to the certificate presentation, showcasing the various activities and academic performances.
This year’s SSSRU result saw the religious school achieving a 98 per cent pass mark, with 50 students scoring Grade 1, 10 students achieving Grade 2 and four earning Grade 3 .
Meanwhile, five Grade 1 students scored Aggregate 5. They were Muhamad Azeezul Hakeem bin Pengiran Azhar, Ajmal Zahirah binti Junit, Fatimah @ Moe Myint Soe, Hanan Nazihah binti Dato Paduka Haji Hisham, Nur Bazilah binti Haji Mamit, Nur Majdina binti Haji Sammali and Siti Aisyah Syazana binti Haji Jamain.
Since its establishment in 2006, the religious school has recorded a total of 341 students who have completed and passed their SSSRU, with a majority of these students pursuing their studies abroad.
The Best Student award went to Fatimah @ Moe Myint Soe, who was also named as an excellent student’ on a national level for scoring distinctions in all of her core subjects.
Yesterday’s ceremony also witnessed the presentation of appreciation certificates to the Primary 6 teachers of the JIS Religious School.
