AN 18-MEMBER team of the Brunei Four Wheel Drive Association (PKTLB) will represent Brunei Darussalam in the 26th Borneo Safari International Off-Road Challenge which will take place from October 30 until November 6 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, flagged off the event in a ceremony held yesterday at the Dermaga Diraja in the capital.
The race will cover approximately 1,000 kilometres over a span of eight days and involves extreme driving conditions through the most challenging rough terrains of Sabah.
The rally will traverse through the scenic yet challenging route of Kota Kinabalu, Ranau and Kota Maduru that surrounds Mount Kinabalu before reaching the finishing line. The event is designed to unleash the spirit of adventure, teamwork and will put the true skills of four-wheel driving to test.
The event aims to give participants more experience and knowledge that they are expected to share with the locals in order to boost extreme motorsports in Brunei.
It also hopes to motivate the participants as well as extreme sports enthusiasts to explore deeply the various technical and operational aspects, especially of four-wheel drive vehicles and to experience and manage the various hurdles they may encounter.
The sporting event is also expected to strengthen the relationship among the participants not only from Brunei but other countries including Malaysia and Indonesia.
