THE Postal Services Department yesterday commemorated World Postal Day in a ceremony that saw the launching of the department’s new mobile application named ‘iPOST’.
The ceremony was held at the Amar Pahlawan Hall of the Ministry of Communications (MinCom) in Jalan Menteri Besar.
Present as the guest of honour was the Minister of Communications, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat.
The ceremony, themed ‘Innovation, Integration and Inclusion’ (Inovasi, Integrasi dan Rangkuman), commenced with a doa recitation followed by a welcoming remark from the Postmaster General, Haji Mohd Manan bin Haji Lakim.
In his remark, Haji Mohd Manan said the Postal Services Department is currently implementing various strategic initiatives towards achieving customers’ demands and needs.
According to him, among the achievements that have been successfully implemented include the data-entry system, the AR Web Listing, door-to-door services, establishing customer service centres, collaboration with the Royal Customs and Excise Department for X-ray scans as well as parcel delivery by motor vehicle.
The event then continued with a cake-cutting ceremony by the guest of honour to officially mark World Postal Day.
This was followed by an award presentation to Daneel bin Alum who received the ‘Excellent Postman Award 2016’ and Hardeeman bin Laiman for the ‘Most Improved Postman for 2016’.
The awards were presented by the guest of honour.
The minister also presented prizes to the winners of the letter-writing competition which saw Husnaa Haaniyah binti Mohd Sahid from Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (MSPSBS) as the first-place winner and Deborah Tan Yi Jun from Chung Hwa Middle School and Awangku Muhammad Zahwan bin Pengiran Haji Azhar from MSPSBS as the second and third-place winners respectively.
The event ended with the launching of the ‘iPOST’ mobile application for Android phones by the guest of honour.
‘iPOST’ is short for ‘Information Post’, an app which features tracking information, postage rate, locations of post offices, postcodes information as well as information on postal services.
Various activities have been carried out by the Postal Services Department to mark World Postal Day, which include thanksgiving prayers, recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil at the Surau of the Brunei International Airport, blood donation campaign, bowling challenge as well as other sporting events.
Also present at the ceremony were members of the Legislative Council as well as Permanent Secretary at the MinCom, Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad; Postmaster General in his capacity as the Chairman of the event, Haji Mohd Manan; heads and deputy heads of departments, officers and staff members of the ministry as well as other invited guests.
