BASMIDA seminar promotes MIB values to prevent drug abuse

THE National Anti-Drug Association (BASMIDA) yesterday launched a seminar where the speakers focussed on upholding the values of the country’s Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy to prevent drug abuse.

In her speech, President of BASMIDA, Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Mohammad Ali said the seminar’s theme is relevant because the society is facing issues such as cyber security threats that could damage one’s mind, family institutions, Islamic Aqidah and Malay heritage.

The theme of the seminar is ‘Pencegahan Penyalahgunaan Dadah Melalui Nilai-Nilai Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB)’, or ‘Prevention of Misuse of Drugs through Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) Noble Values’.

The seminar was officiated by Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman at The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong.

On arrival, Her Royal Highness was greeted by BASMIDA President Datin Hajah Masni and senior members of the association.

Datin Hajah Masni said the nation is lucky to be have His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as a leader to look after the purity of the values of Islam.

She said the objectives of the seminar are relevant to Preventive Drug Education (PDE) that teaches and put into practice MIB values to prevent the misuse of drugs.

The participation of members of PEMADAM and SANA will encourage the sharing of knowledge and experiences in combatting the drug problems together, she said.

The speakers for the seminar include Dr Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong, Senior Special Duties Officer at the MIB Supreme Council, Universiti Brunei Darussalam; Dr Lily Suzana binti Haji Shamsu, Dean of Usuluddin of Faculty of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA); and Ustazah Pengiran Norhayati binti Pengiran Haji Kasharan, Head of Talk Unit, Islamic Da’wah Centre.
