THE final of the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran Competition for officers and staff of the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Islamic Studies Department in conjunction with the 26th Teacher’s Day celebration was held yesterday at the Auditorium Hall of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).
Present as the guest of honour to present the prizes was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education.
The champions are Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abdul Manaf from the Curriculum Development Department, Ministry of Education, in the male category; and Rubiah binti Haji Timbang from the Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs in the female category.
In the male category, second place was won by Haji Mohd Asri bin Haji Timbang; third was Haji Nor Asilin bin Haji Puting, and fourth was Haji Mohd Khairuddin bin Haji Meraji. All three are from the Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
In the female category, second place was won by Norzirwatul Fadhillah binti Haji Puteh from the Schools Department of the Ministry of Education; third was Zaiton binti Haji Abdullah and was fourth Julianawati binti Haji Hamdan, both are from the Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The male champion Haji Abdul Rahman said this was the first time he participated in the competition at the ministerial level. “My preparations involved studying the Tarannum recitation and learning different methods from the Al-Quran teachers,” he said.
The female champion Rubiah said, “In Brunei, the youth have begun taking notice of the importance of Al-Quran recitation. I encourage more youths to participate in these competitions to gain experience and improve their recitation,” she said.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Education, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar; Permanent Secretary (Higher Learning) at the Ministry of Education, Dr Haji Junaidi bin Haji Abdul Rahman; Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education, Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh; and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof.
The competition was organised by the Co-Curriculum Education Department to improve the quality of Al-Quran recitation among officers and staff of the MoE and the Islamic Studies Department.
