FIRST Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohammad Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence, was in Singapore from November 8 to 11, to take part in the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of bilateral defence ties between Brunei and Singapore.
According to a press release from Singapore’s Ministry of Defence, during the visit, the deputy minister called on Dr Ng Eng Hen, Singapore’s Minister for Defence, and inspected a guard of honour at the Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).
The deputy minister also visited the Cyber Security Agency and the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) Integrated Complex, after which he was hosted by Dr Ng at an official lunch.
On November 9, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz was also hosted by Chief of Staff – General Staff Brigadier-General Desmond Tan, at the Murai Urban Training Facility, where he observed officer cadets from both the Officer Cadet Schools (OCS) of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) undergoing urban operations (UO) training together.
The deputy minister also received a briefing by Commander OCS Colonel (COL) Kenny Tay, and interacted with both the RBAF and SAF cadets.
On November 11, he visited the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)’s 126 Squadron, as well as watched the ongoing Exercise Maju Bersama between the Singapore Army and the Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF).
The visits were also hosted by the Chief of Air Force Major-General Mervyn Tan, and Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Perry Lim.
Singapore and Brunei have enjoyed close defence ties since 1976.
This defence relationship deepened over the years, as the interactions between the SAF and RBAF grew in scope and complexity. Both armed forces interact regularly through a wide range of activities that include bilateral exercises, regular visits and professional exchanges.
