A VOLUNTEER group of Mukim Sengkurong (SUMUS) was officially launched by Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim. The event was held yesterday at the Community Hall of Mukim Sengkurong.
Hosted by SUMUS in collaboration with Mukim Sengkurong Consultative Council, the event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Haji Kamarulzaman bin Haji Jakar, Imam of Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Jerudong, followed by a welcoming remark by the chairman of the event, Haji Abdullah bin Haji Timbul, and continued with a speech by the Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, who was also the guest of honour.
In his speech, the Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer underlined that SUMUS is a platform for the residents of the Mukim to take the initiative in contributing ideas, energy, time and money to help the less fortunate residents of Mukim Sengkurong.
He also said, “SUMUS has received encouraging response and will be able to provide services such as welfare, recovery, development, education, security, health, conservation of the environment and others that are beneficial to society.” The event also saw presentation of certificates of appreciation to contributors by the guest of honour and a souvenir presentation to the guest of honour.
SUMUS aims to provide assistance to Penghulu and village head as well as to establish a network between government agencies and non-government organisations in handling any disasters that may occur in the Mukim.
