TECHNICAL and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays a very important role in producing skilled human resources that can enhance the development of a nation.
“TVET is a key priority for Ministry of Education which has identified it as one of the pillars of the National Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21),” said Dr Haji Zamri bin Haji Sabli, Acting Director of Technical Education cum Acting Chief Executive Officer of Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE).
He was speaking at the handing over ceremony for the Programme Guide for NTec in Armament and Instrument Maintenance from IBTE to the Training Institute of Royal Brunei Armed Force which took place at the School of Aviation, IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus in Berakas.
“TVET is crucial to advancing skills of youth who may not be academically inclined but possess technical aptitude. TVET, therefore, enhances these students’ future employability prospects.”
TVET, he added, “has a pivotal role in realising Brunei Vision 2035 through creating well-educated and highly skilled people to support Brunei Darussalam’s economic development.”
To stay relevant and to meet demands of the industries and the labour market, “it is imperative that IBTE needs to work in close collaboration with the relevant stakeholders including RBAF,” he said.
IBTE, he noted, “is actively implementing reforms to upgrade the technical education in the country.
“Various strategies have been prepared to ensure that the ongoing programmes at IBTE meet industry needs and in line with the current working environment.”
The key to the success of the programmes offered by IBTE is the establishment of a curriculum that is ‘competency-based’, providing industrial training to instructors to increase their pedagogical skills and teaching aids that meet industry standards.
