ARMAMENT Technician students under the Training Institute of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (TI RBAF) will be able to pursue higher education with their NTec qualification.
The two-year training programme is recognised by the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) which offers a National Technical Education Certificate (NTec) qualification in Armament and Instrument Maintenance.
The NTec programme designed for the RBAF Armament Technician students is a collaborative training scheme of IBTE and TI RBAF conducted for a period of two years at the School of Energy and Engineering Satellite, IBTE Sultan Bolkiah Campus in Seria and Training Institute of Royal Brunei Armed Forces in Penanjong Garrison.
The handing over of the Programme Guide for NTec in Armament and Instrument Maintenance from IBTE to TI RBAF took place at the School of Aviation, IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus, in Berakas yesterday.
Dr Haji Zamri bin Haji Sabli, Acting Director cum Acting Chief Executive Officer of IBTE, presented the Programme Guide to Colonel Khairul Hamed bin Haji Lampoh, Commandant of the TI RBAF.
Witnessing the event were the guests of honour, Captain (Rtd) Haji Mohammad Amirul Shahnoel bin Haji Mohammad Noeh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technology) at the Ministry of Defence and Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education.
Dr Haji Zamri said the development of NTec in Armament and Instrument Maintenance programme is a remarkable example of close cooperation between IBTE and its stakeholders.
“It is a customised training programme designed to produce competent workers in the areas of armament and instrument maintenance.
“The content of the programme provides students with skills and knowledge in engineering science, welding practices, small arms general principles, optical general principles and the specific equipment maintenance training, which is necessary to become a competent RBAF armament technician.”
NTec programme is equivalent to level 3 of the Brunei Darussalam Qualification Framework (BDQF) and allows armament technicians to gain both military and civilian qualifications, enabling them to progress to higher education.
Following the ceremony, the guests visited a static exhibition held at the hangar of the School of Aviation, IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus.
