THE Ministry of Health (MoH) will continue to strive for providing high quality, safe, cost-effective, efficient and innovative services in line with the needs of the time.
This was stated by the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi during the Muzakarah (sharing session) with stakeholders in the Belait District.
The session was attended by the permanent secretary and deputy permanent secretaries at the MoH, the Belait District Officer, senior officers from the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Customs and Excise Department and Royal Brunei Armed Forces as well as penghulus and village heads.
The event was one of the initiatives of the MoH aimed to identify issues faced by the public in relation of health services, increase of the level of health services, and inculcate a healthy lifestyle.
It served as a platform for stakeholders to share suggestions and to contribute to the efforts towards realising the vision and strategy of the MoH.
At the start of the closed door meeting, the minister stated three strategic priorities that have become the focus of the MoH: Control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs); consolidation and alignment to provide value-added health services to the public; and further strengthening the medicare system in the country. To realise the MoH goals, government agencies, private sector and the society should work together, with individuals sharing responsibility to care for their health, he added.
The minister urged all stakeholders to play their respective roles to bring about more effective public awareness on the importance of health, adding that “health is everyone’s business”.
This is in line with the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration 2016, in which the monarch stressed on the importance of health.
The health minister also said that grass-root leaders are keys to solving community issues. They form part of the ‘whole of nation approach’ and this fits well with the vision of the health ministry, ie ‘Together towards healthy citizens’, he added.
