THE LNG Producer-Consumer Conference 2016 organised by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) was held on November 24 in Tokyo, Japan.
In a press release from Brunei’s Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO), it was shared that the Conference serves to promote dialogue and understanding among liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers and consumers on issues facing the LNG industry.
The conference was officially opened by Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry and Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar.
In his opening address, Hiroshige Seko highlighted that Japan is the world’s largest importer of LNG and remarked a promising future for LNG in fuelling global economic growth and meeting climate change objectives. Hiroshige Seko explained Japan’s strategy on LNG market development aims at creating a more flexible and global LNG market.
In his remarks on ‘Emerging LNG Markets in Asia’, the Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar acknowledged new developments and uncertainty in the global LNG market.
The minister encouraged LNG producers and consumers to embrace the changing market landscape and structure in order to create a win-win outcome for all.
The minister also highlighted the importance of the Paris Agreement which Brunei Darussalam ratified on September 21, 2016.
The 6th LNG Producer-Consumer Conference will be held in 2017.
