TWENTY-ONE Bruneian companies will be joining an official delegation led by the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (EIDPMO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT) of Brunei Darussalam for a Trade Mission to the Sultanate of Oman.

This trade mission is being carried out in conjunction with the 2nd Brunei-Oman Joint Energy and Industry Seminar, an event organised jointly by EIDPMO and the Ministry of Oil and Gas of the Sultanate of Oman.

The seminar will take place at the Grand Hyatt in Muscat, on December 4-6 2016, with the theme ‘Strengthening Industrial Cooperation for Economic Growth and Development’.

The Bruneian companies joining the trade mission will represent a variety of sectors and business activities, including oil and gas, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, ICT, Muslimah fashion, education and business services.

Out of the 21 companies joining the delegation, eight micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) qualified for government sponsorship which covers accommodation, return flight tickets and the printing of promotional materials.

Yesterday saw the pre-departure briefing for the trade mission and seminar held at the Design and Technology Building at Anggerek Desa.

Along with the participating companies, the briefing was attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashel bin Rashed bin Hashel Al-Maskari, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Brunei Darussalam as well as Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Deputy Permanent Secretary (IT, E-Government and Industry) at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The ambassador delivered remarks at the briefing, in which he shared that this trade mission “is the second mission for businesses and entrepreneurs from this country to Oman, and we are really keen and eager, as far as the Oman Government is concerned, to see people-to-people communication between the Bruneians and Oman in various fields.”

“The more we can talk about business, we can initiate more ideas for joint ventures, or trade or any type of business activity between the two countries,” he highlighted, adding that this will help to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations.

The participants were then briefed on the basic logistics as well as the participation objectives for the trade mission.

In an EIDPMO press release, it is shared that the 2nd Brunei-Oman Joint Energy and Industry Seminar will discuss SME Development, Renewable Energy Capabilities, Ease of Doing Business and other topics will be conducted between the relevant agencies of the two countries.

Other scheduled activities also include workshops on trade and investment activities, business matching and site visits to oil refinery plants, major ports, food processing units and industrial sites.

Among the objectives of this seminar and trade mission is to foster closer relations between the two Sultanates by exploring more areas of cooperation in energy and industry.

It is hoped that this platform will allow for exchange of information and best practices in developing both the energy and industry sector of both countries.

As a follow-up to the seminar, a delegation from Oman visited Brunei Darussalam in May 2015 headed by Sheikh Khalid bin Ghalid bin Ali-Hinai, Human Resources Advisor to the Minister of Oil and Gas Oman to learn and model on Brunei’s Energy Industry Competency Framework (EICF) as well as on Brunei’s efforts on increasing the local employment.

The press release concludes, “Local MSMEs and companies are encouraged to stay up-to-date through DARE (Darussalam Enterprise) and EIDPMO’s social media platforms, on Instagram and Facebook, in order to find out about future opportunities to join trade missions and seminars.”
