Najip advance to FA Cup semi-final after IKLS win

NAJIP I-Team booked their place in the semi-finals of the Brunei DST FA Cup 2016 after scraping to a narrow 3-2 win over IKLS FC at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

The Brunei DST Super League side also eradicated memories when an Md Noh Haji Mat Johari’s own goal condemned them to a 1-0 loss to Tabuan Muda at the same stage last year.

Ampuan Mohd Endy Azri Ampuan Haji Idris opened the scoring for Najip in the 18th minute before Mohd Azri Zahari doubled their lead seven minutes later.

Muhd Yumni Yahya reduced the deficit after converting a 50th minute penalty for the Brunei DST Premier League outfit.

Muhd Faiz Farhan Kamat hit the post in the 62nd minute but he was on target five minutes later after drilling home a low ball on the left flank.

IKLS did not keep their heads down after falling further behind and earned a consolation through Azmain Haji Masri in the 93rd minute.

Tabuan Under-17 became the first team through to the semi-finals after a shock 1-0 victory over MS PDB at the Berakas Sports Complex in an afternoon kick-off.

Md Nur Asyraffahmi Nor Samri followed up his effort against Jerudong FC with the only goal of the game six minutes from time.

Tabuan Under-17 have been scheduled to meet Najip in the first semi-final of the Brunei DST FA Cup 2016 on December 16 at the Berakas Sports Complex.

The quarter-finals continue on Sunday with the spicy clash between Indera SC and Kasuka FC while defending champions MS ABDB face Kota Ranger FC.

The winner of both quarterfinals ties will meet each other in the second semi-final with the renewal of rivalry between Indera and MS ABDB a real possibility.
