THE opening ceremony of the 26th Technical Committee Meeting under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the Government of the Republic of Singapore on the cooperation in the field of Broadcasting and Information was held on Friday at the Prime Minister’s Office Building, Jalan Perdana Menteri, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The ceremony was co-officiated by Mohamed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohamed Yunos, Permanent Secretary (Media and Cabinet) at the Prime Minister’s Office as the head of Brunei Darussalam’s delegation; and from Singapore, Gabriel Lim the Second Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Communications and Information.
“Our relationship under the broadcasting MoU is now in its 26th year, and Brunei Darussalam and Singapore have continuously enjoyed a long and excellent working relationship between our ministries, broadcasters, and also with our youth and artistes participating in the productions over the years,” said Mohamed Riza.
Noting that there are still “challenges in attracting our viewers and listeners, which require our broadcasters to be more creative and innovative in producing quality and rich content”, the permanent secretary said that he looked forward to learning about a report from the Broadcast Working Group on their action plan, as well as other future projects in regard to broadcasting cooperation.
The two-day meeting will discuss broadcasting and information cooperation projects and activities between Department of Radio Television Brunei and Information Department; and Singapore’s Ministry of Communications and Information, the Info-Communications Media Development Authority of Singapore, and MediaCorp Pte Ltd.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu, Director of Radio Television Brunei (RTB); Mawardi bin Haji Mohammad, Acting Director of Information; as well as senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, RTB and Information Department.
