IN HELPING the Sultanate achieve Brunei Vision 2035, all parties need to establish partnerships. Every individual is responsible for his own health and at the same time needs to cooperate with other parties in order to create a society that practises a wellness model.
This was highlighted by the Minister of Health, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi in a dialogue session with stakeholders that took place at Al-‘Afiah Hall in Jalan Commonwealth Drive, in the Brunei-Muara District yesterday.
In his speech, the minister said that all must become wiser in practising the proper way of maintaining health starting from their own diet, adding that if everyone takes proper health care, the country would be able to produce more resilient and productive citizens.
The minister called on the youth to look after their wellness by controlling their diet, going to gymnasium, doing sports activities as well as participating in physical activities.
Inculcating healthy habits among our youth would be the key to control and prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs), he added.
On this note, the minister said, his ministry will continue its efforts in providing quality, on time, safe, cost-effective, efficient and innovative services in line with what is needed today and in the future.
The minister also explained that the ministry is focusing on three strategic priorities: Control of NCDs; consolidation and alignment to provide value-added health services to the public; and further strengthening the medicare system in the country.
The dialogue session is an initiative of the Ministry of Health (MoH) in its approach to identify issues faced by the public towards making healthy lifestyle as a culture.
In an interview, Dr Haji Ahmad Yazid bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Medical Superintendent at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital said the dialogue sessions will discuss issues raised by stakeholders to create a client-friendly environment.
On this note, he added, several meetings, discussions and workshops have been carried out by the MoH in order to improve the situation.
Among those attending the dialogue session yesterday were Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, deputy permanent secretaries, senior officers as well as the Brunei-Muara District Officer.
