IN CONJUNCTION with the 23rd Civil Service Day celebration, over 400 people yesterday gathered at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (SOAS) in the capital to take part in the ‘Riadah Amal Hari Perkhidmatan Awam 2016’ – a charity cycling and walkathon event.

Joining in the event was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports cum guest of honour Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.

The event commenced with the guest of honour presenting a $5,000 mock cheque donation to two non-government associations – Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BDNAB) and the Paralympic Council Brunei Darussalam.

Following this, the guest of honour and other attendees warmed-up with an aerobics session.

After the minister sounded the horn, participants set off on the 10km charity cycling, as did participants of the 2.5km walkathon around the capital.

Speaking to the Bulletin, Mohd Yassin bin Haji Ahmad, Administrative Officer Special Grade at the Office of the Public Service Commission, explained that the objective of the event is to enliven the weekly car-free day ‘Bandarku Ceria’ with healthy activities, apart from raising funds to help the needy.

Donation boxes were also placed at various stations by the Civil Service Department.
