HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has specially commanded for the construction of a new building to be made into the night market in Gadong.
Coordination and management agency of the night market has been formed and the members consist of the officers from the Office of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, government agencies and several representatives of the private sector who are currently carrying out the construction of a permanent building to accommodate the current registered vendors operating at the night market.
This is an initiative of His Majesty to create a more conducive, friendly and comfortable environment for vendors and customers similar to the permanent Tamu Kianggeh.
The new night market building in Gadong is located between the car lots and near to the Gadong wet market and near the temporary existing night market tents. The building will be equipped with modern and organised infrastructure which covers an area of 5,979 square metres.
The new night market will be equipped with a surau, parking bay, public restrooms and garbage disposal area as well as a building block that will house the security control room and the night market’s management office.
Seats for the public are also placed at the same area.
The project’s construction is expected to be completed by the end of December 2016.
While the project is being carried out, the public is requested to be cautious and patient in ensuring that the project is completed according to planned.
