THE Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) yesterday distributed $24,200 in Zakat (tithe) collection to fire victims during a ceremony at the new building of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
First to receive the donation was Sabli bin Kamaruddin from a family of 11, whose Kampong Sungai Asam house was gutted by fire on December 6.
He also received $2,200 as well as school essentials for his children.
Hajah Sharphina binti Abdullah from a family of five, lost her Jalan Kapok Kanan home on December 7. She received $1,000, along with school essentials for her grandchildren.
Donations were then presented to victims of a December 7 fire which occurred at Kampong Pandai Besi ‘A’ and Kampong Lurong Dalam.
The nine heads of families with 35 family members from Kampong Pandai Besi ‘A’, and the 13 family heads with 49 family members from Kampong Lurong Dalam received financial aid amounting to $21,200, along with school essentials.
Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sabtu, the Acting Secretary of Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, presented the donations to the recipients.
